Buckinghamshire is a big place, you'll need to be more specific.
I can only speak about Los Angeles ... t'aint pretty. There are a lot of places with beautiful scenery .. lovely mountains, deep blue lakes, emerald green parks, wild desert lands and the mighty Pacific ocean ... but ... it is not safe. Period. I grew up in southern California; I worked and played all over the state for over 50 years. My dad and grandpa were there 50 years before that. My kids and grandkids were born there, as was my husband and his side of the family. This voice speaks from experience. During the last 20 years, the crime rate grew faster than the population. Faster even than the cost of living. The stories I could tell you would both amaze and horrify you. Any state that boasts a police department fund raiser that featured t-shirts with a silhouette of a body on a morgue slab should be avoided. I advise against California...particularly the LA area.
A public library in Buckinghamshire will have one
Why not pop into Widmer feeds/stables. The girls there will tell you the routes that they ride, if you ask nicely. Failing that buy an ordinance survey map from Smiths.
It all depends on what your interests are. It is no use suggesting climbing if that doesn't interest you. So why not look through the sites on this page and see if there is anything that interests you. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=enq=what+to+do+in+buckinghamshiremeta=
this is still considered a craft , not fine art, so this is why galleries are being snooty. Secondly, there are so many around, and third, they don't bring much money...so those gallery owners who pay high rents don't benefit by selling low end merchandise. look for community craft fairs, community center art venues, co-ops, small gift shops.
Go to this site www.bedbreakfastavailability.co.uk and put the town name and dates of your stay in the search bars and you'll find rooms which are notified as available.
You can rent rowing boats during the summer along Bedford River.
Aylesbury has a good train link to London and is surrounded by nice countryside but there is not much to do there!
Around the chilterns but it rarely ever snows. Your best bet would be to go to Xscape in Milton Keynes where you can go sledding down the slopes there. They don't do it all the time though mainly in the school holidays i think? its best to ring them to find out when they do it. Good luck
